Greenmile: Cloud-Based Logistics Solutions for Last Mile Transportation

Founded in 2005 to meet the expanding need for route and fleet performance tracking, GreenMile provides customers with strategic and territory planning, daily route optimization, real time dispatching, mobility applications, and vehicle telematics through its cloud-based logistics suite. “GreenMile is a SaaS platform which harnesses the ‘power of the cloud’ to run massive in-depth analysis of all the real-time data collected from mobile devices, black box GPS hardware, and telematics in the vehicle,” states Regis Melo, Co-Founder and CTO of GreenMile. This allows GreenMile to provide real-time visibility & transportation intelligence to their customers rather than just showing them GPS ‘dots on a map’, furthering GreenMile’s distinct advantage in the market.

GreenMile’s solutions are built on state of the art technology, which includes a cloud-based SaaS platform hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS). These solutions deliver real-time visibility into route planning and execution, dispatch & fleet management, and delivery KPI’s.

“We pride ourselves in understanding how GreenMile is being used in the customer’s environment. This involves very specific discussions around usability and application responsiveness. We recognize that our mobile users need to have a unique–and streamlined–experience with our applications in order to increase usage and adoption rates in the field,” says Melo.

In tune with current BYOD trends, GreenMile’s solutions are designed to be compatible with any mobile operating system available in the market, allowing their clients to run various operating systems throughout their business. Seamless integration back into GreenMile’s cloud platform enables customers to quickly and easily sync up transportation initiatives with their mobile resources in the field.

In addition to providing distributors real-time feedback from the field, the system can also automatically transfer this corrected data back into their route planning software

Functioning as the ‘command center’ for dispatching operations and providing real-time insight into delivery routes, drivers, customers, and orders is GreenMile Live—the platform that delivers feedback on Actual vs Planned information.“Along with live updates on route and delivery status, GreenMile Live allows distributors to monitor fleet performance in the field along with any changes that may be occurring to the planned routes,” says Melo.

In addition to providing distributors real-time feedback from the field, the system can also automatically transfer this corrected data back into their route planning software. This enables the routing software to ‘learn’ over time, creating more accurate routes and delivery/service scenarios going forward based on collecting better information occurring in the field–insight that is mission-critical for a distributor to have access to.

GreenMile also offers a suite of mobility applications that complement their fleet performance platform. GreenMile Driver is compatible with any operating system or device, facilitating two-way communication between driver and the operations center and providing real-time updates along with any changes to route, order, or customer status. The firm’s GreenMile Manager application provides service and delivery exception notifications in real-time to the management team and other key personnel in the organization via a mobile device or tablet to better manage fleet operations on the fly. GreenMile Manager provides quick and easy access into the delivery day–helping clients understand their fleet’s performance metrics and measure delivery success.

GreenMile’s innovative solutions are used by many progressive distributors including Monarch Beverage Company in Indianapolis, IN. Monarch is one of the largest beer and wine wholesalers in the US, delivering products 5 days a week across its fleet of 110 trucks. As the company grew, their outdated on-premise dispatching technology became unreliable and cumbersome to manage. As a result, Monarch decided to automate its dispatching processes by upgrading to GreenMile’s SaaS platform. GreenMile’s solutions improved control, efficiency, and flexibility in the delivery process while significantly reducing overall last-mile delivery costs.

Best-in-class technology coupled with a customer-centric service model has helped GreenMile continue their expansion both domestically and internationally. But no matter how large their footprint grows, GreenMile still stays true to their core business philosophy: Delivering superior technology that allows distributors to improve both their bottom line and the end user’s overall delivery experience.
